Where did the summer go? Wasn’t it just yesterday that we welcomed the solstice? What havoc nature wreaked: earthquake, hurricanes, epic floods and drought. Not to mention our human-made disasters: debt ceiling hysteria, a dangerously stalled economy, rising unemployment. And a poverty rate for children of 22 percent. The Summer Solstice ushered in a spate of clear, bright June days, promising infinite possibility and a more leisurely pace. Nice fantasy.
